Cirkeln är sluten. Patrik Nordström spelade sin första 3×3 turnering i Borås för tre år sedan. En turnering som också var Patriks comeback till tävlingsbasket efter att han varit borta från sporten i 2 år med en brutal knäskada och efterföljande operationer. Det året blev det brons och det väcktes en låga, hela lagets basketdrömmar fick nytt liv.
– “3×3 gav mig chansen att göra det jag älskar, igen!”
Förra helgen var 3×3 SM tillbaka i Borås och Patrik var där som svensk mästare från 2016 för att försvara sitt guld och befästa sin position som Sveriges nr 1.
Med dubbla SM-guld, ett silver och ett brons är Patrik nu Sveriges högst rankade och mest dekorerade spelare. Och han har bara börjat!
Alla som känner Patrik vet att han i princip bor i gymmet och alltid kommer tillbaka till planen. Patrik maler på och han ger sig aldrig.
-Inget kan få mig bort från 3×3 nu, varken tuffa förluster, skador eller långa resor! Vägen hit har varit lång och tuff, som för sköldpaddan i berättelsen med haren. Kontinuerlig förbättring dag efter dag och år efter år, sakta men säkert. I 3×3 är inte åldern en begränsning för fortsatt utveckling. Många av världens bästa börjar närma sig 40 utan tecken på att sakta ner och med åren kommer styrka, balans, uthållighet, rutin och spelförståelse som tar tid att utveckla.
3×3 utvecklas ständigt. Framförallt ser vi fler och fler nischade spelare och det arrangeras fler turneringar både för elit och motion. Sverige må ligga efter övriga nationsförbund men det nya 3×3 golvet som vi såg under SM ger en känsla av att vi är på väg framåt och att även Sverige ser värdet i att investera i 3×3.
-3×3 är framtiden. Spelarna vet det, sponsorerna vet det och FIBA har tillsammans med övriga världen redan bevisat det!

Hur blir man bra på 3×3 då?
-Enkelt, skaffa en grym flickvän som hjälper till att sköta kosten och pushar en till gymmet de dagar de känns lite extra tufft. Sedan måste man såklart också spela så mycket 3×3 som möjligt.
-Turneringarna som Stockholm Basket arrangerade under säsongen gav oss lag från Stockholm en speciell möjlighet att få ett par extra turneringar under bältet denna säsong och jobba på vårt game. Att Stockholm Basket även skickade oss till en Europa Challenger när vi vann DM betydde otroligt mycket. Där fick vi spela mot de bästa i världen och den rutinen hjälpte oss i SM där vi lyckades vinna alla jämna matcher. Utan den rutinen hade det kunnat sluta hur som helst. Personligen har jag fokuserat på att hålla min kropp i bra skick och spenderat mycket tid i gymmet.
Det är också enormt viktigt att vara mentalt förberedd, och det är här de riktiga 3×3-spelarna skiljer sig från de övriga. Förutsättningarna förändras inte bara mellan turneringar men även mellan matcher, allt från väder till domslut. Man måste vara redo att anpassa sig.
Vad har turneringarna i Stockholm under säsongen betytt för dig?
-Enormt mycket! Skulle nog vilja säga att de är den absolut största anledningen till mina framgångar 2017. Jag har spelat så mycket jag hinner med och spelat med vem som helst egentligen när inte de ordinarie spelarna i BeOne kunnat vara med. Det är väldigt utvecklande att ena gången ha rollen som poänggörare men i nästa turnering fokusera på att rätt lagkamrat ska ha bollen i rätt läge. Ena turneringen kanske man har två duktiga inside-spelare och ingen utmärkt skytt, andra turneringen är hela laget fantastiska skyttar men alla under 190 cm, det lär en att anpassa sig och ta den rollen laget behöver för att vinna. Man bygger upp viktigt förtroende och kemi med sina lagkamrater när man spelar mycket tillsammans. Jag är bra på att välja lagkamrater också.
På tal om lagkamrater, berätta om årets Guldlag?
– Då tycker jag vi inleder med Hugo Stålbröst, vår yngste krigare. En outtröttlig hårt försvarande skytt som aldrig backar för någon.
Hugo växte enormt under SM och gjorde utan tvekan sin bästa turnering med framförallt flera avgörande passningar och viktiga poäng.
Daniel Persson var ett wild card, en tidigare lagkamrat till Hugo och som även Omar lirat med i diverse ungdomslandslag. SM var hans första 3×3 turnering, och med avgörande skott i ALLA slutspelsmatcher kan vi säga att han presterade helt ok….. Han har ett galet högt basket-IQ och han förstod direkt vikten av att spela tufft försvar, Daniel var en perfekt pusselbit i vårt lag.
Sist men inte minst, Omar “the big homie” Zaghdane. Omar är vår stjärna, han är livsfarlig från alla positioner.
Med sin inställning och never back down-mentality är han ett riktigt 3×3-proffs. Han är den vi vänder oss till och förlitar oss på när vi andra är off eller spelet inte klickar. Med honom på planen vet vi att vi alltid kan få iväg ett bra skott och ta viktiga returer.
Personligen var mitt fokus på försvar, jag visste att vi redan har spelare som kan göra poäng, det var inte där skillnaden skulle bli.
I finalen var jag hårt markerad ute vid 2-poängslinjen och försökte utnyttja det genom att skapa yta för mina lagkamrater i anfall, och som grabbarna spelade och krigade kände jag mig som en stolt storebror när slutsignalen ljöd och vi tog hem guldet. Ingen av de andra i laget hade nämligen ett guld sen tidigare och jag gav allt för att de också skulle få ett!
Slutligen, vad betyder 3×3 för dig?
-En massa saker, det är en chans att få umgås med de människor jag älskar medan vi gör något vi alla älskar och brinner för.
Det är även en chans att få se flera nya platser i världen, möta de bästa spelarna och tävla på en hög nivå.
Sist men inte minst skulle jag vilja säga att 3×3 är inte bara en chans för spelare, utan domare, arrangörer och tränare har också enorma möjligheter att genom tid och entusiasm göra sig en karriär i 3×3-cirkusen.
Ute i Europa spelas det landslagsturneringar i alla åldrar, domarna reser runt precis som lagen och duktiga arrangörer uppskattas och får stöd av FIBA.
